2014 Wrap-Up

Hello friends! Realized that between touring and various commitments that this space for "bi-weekly" updates has been ignored since July. I'd love to rectify that with a quick update of what's been going on and what you can expect to see from me by the end of the year. I spent over a month on the road with Brandie Posey, doing shows across the country in arcades, ice cream parlors, theaters, music venues, backyards, bars, and anywhere else the people of this great country felt obligated to connect a microphone to speakers. This was my first extended cross-country endeavor, and one I engaged...

July Tour

Listen up, y'all. Heading out on tour. Come hang. I'm on the road with Brandie Posey for most of these dates, and a few of the Kansas ones are changing. (Lawrence is now on the 31st for example, but hey, follow along on Twitter or Facebook and I'll let you know all dates and shows.) I got a nice write up in The Experiment last Friday, the comic book I serve as villain inspiration for A VOICE IN THE DARK just released Volume 1 collection, and we've been rolling into Year 2 of Brock Party with some fantastic guests. I've also booked a location for my next album recording, which I'll be doing...

Recording A New Comedy Special In San Francisco

Thrilled to announce that I will be taping a new hour of standup material in San Francisco on Friday, September 20th at 9pm. The recording will take place at Cynic Cave, which is in the basement of Lost Weekend Video, one of the last great indie-video-rental stores. Fitting with the theme of the venue, we will be shooting only on VHS and Beta tapes, most of which are taken from the store itself. The project is directed by San Francisco's experimental video artist Patrick Wilkinson, who has been one of my closest friends since we once failed to adapt a Lovecraftian short-film back in Chicago....

Your Friends Close premieres tomorrow night

Tomorrow night, our movie Your Friends Close premieres at United Fest LA and I feel like my heart is going to explode. Back in 2011, Jocelyn Kelvin and I were going to make a movie. We had a script, a director, a cast, and funding. Overnight, all of those things disappeared. Rather than scrap our dream, we turned to a newish website called Kickstarter, which we used to annoy the shit out of everyone we knew, begging for a few bucks of support. Somehow it worked, and it was the most important month of my life. See, whenever you get a donation on Kickstarter, they send a little emailing telling...

Death of Death of the Weekend

DEATH TO DEATH OF THE WEEKEND! It is with great joy that we announce our one year anniversary show of DEATH OF THE WEEKEND at iO West. It was with great sadness that we also announce this is the final DEATH OF THE WEEKEND SHOW. On March 3rd at 11pm in the MAIN ROOM, we'll be doing our final standup show at iO. On Sundays, Feb 10th, 17th, and 24th we will be having our final shows in the Andy Dick DCT Theater. The final show is in the big room, with the big names, and the big goodbyes. On Becoming A “Professional Comedian”

Tomorrow I'm releasing my first comedy special: 28 Years Later. It will be downloadable for your viewing pleasure. If you're trapped on the East Coast, hopefully it can help entertain you through the nightmarish hell-scape happening outside. This is my first day as a "professional comedian." Not because I'm releasing a special, but because this is my first day of unemployment. I am no longer a "professional" anything else, and I intend to dedicate everything I have towards making "shouting about sadness" my full time jam. Earlier this month, "Exquisite Corpse," the book I co-edited, was released...

28 Years Later is wrapped

We've wrapped production on my comedy special, 28 YEARS LATER. Wanted to take a minute to thank everyone involved in the production, especially those of whom did excellent work for little to no money, because if you are a person who has money, they are well worth it: Joe Filipas for directing. Joe has been a friend for years and one of the few creative voices I trust to line up with my own. He is also in the dictionary next to "Midwestern Nice" and his careful planning (read: constant harassment) was what kept this train on the tracks. He's out of Minnesota, but his company Sugo Media does...

Why I’m Filming A Comedy Special

Hey Internet, I'm filming a comedy special on September 18th, at Club Fais Do-Do here in Los Angeles. The show is at 8pm and it is completely free. Some of my favorite comics in town are dropping by, PBR is giving us booze, there will be food, and then cameras will record your laughing at my failure so I can share it with the world. I've been in standup for just over a year, so why record a special now? First, it's my 28th birthday; hence the title 28 YEARS LATER. A friend of mine once said that if you move to LA and haven't made it by 28, you never will. This doesn't apply to me, because...

Brett Neveu’s Christmas Bytes: A Kickstarter To Kick/Start Now!

This is CHRISTMAS BYTES, a feature film about love and video games and growing up and the 80s. It was written by my favorite screenwriting teacher and all around awesome guy Brett Neveu, and they've launched a Kickstarter campaign today. Now Your Friends Close has a sister film! I encourage you all to check out their KICKSTARTER PAGE immediately. Not only is Dule Hill a producer (PSYCH RULES), but the other behind the scenes talent include people who brought us films like "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" and "Wild Things"; a DP who worked with Robert Altman; a star actor who is playing...
