Mike Cavalier’s Introduction to FILMPOCALYPSE!

You can still order a copy of FILMPOCALYPSE! 52 Cinematic Visions of the End in time for Christmas, if you want to give a gift that you can be SURE no one will have. Seriously. There are only like 200 people in the world who would need to regift this right now. U can win Xmas! Mike Cavalier, the creator of The Junior Varsity, edited the book and wrote this informal introduction, not included in the book itself. Here it is, for your enjoyment: Through the Fire and the Flames (A prelude to the Filmpocalypse) By Mike Cavalier   Death is the great equalizer. No matter who we are — good...

FILMPOCALYPSE! Introduction by Film Crit Hulk

Film Crit Hulk, a beacon of hope in a critical world, has written this introduction for my new book of apocalyptic film reviews, entitled FILMPOCALPYSE! 52 Cinematic Visions Of The End. All sales of the book before the Mayan apocalypse on 12-21-12 go to charity, specifically KidSave International. So pick up a copy HERE. If you need further convincing, here's the gamma radiated introduction in its brilliant entirety: Introduction. WE LOVE THE APOCALYPSE BECAUSE WE LIKE ENDINGS. THAT MAY SOUND OVERTLY SIMPLE, POSSIBLY EVEN REDUCTIVE, BUT HULK REALLY BELIEVES THAT'S THE CORE MECHANISM...

Release of 28 Years Later & FILMPOCALYPSE!

One hell of a month. Time to catch up. My comedy special Brock Wilbur: 28 Years Later was released and is available for download through the site, as well as iTunes, Amazon, and Google Music. I got a few requests for the music we used, so here's a free link to download the songs I recorded, including my attempt at jamming all of the Goblin stuff into one track: Soundtrack Folder Download. Followed my release with a bit of support touring, including the Best Fish Taco One Year Blowout and a trip up to San Fran with Sofiya Alexandra and Matt Monroe. Got to open for W. Kamau Bell and here's a photo...

On Becoming A “Professional Comedian”

Tomorrow I'm releasing my first comedy special: 28 Years Later. It will be downloadable for your viewing pleasure. If you're trapped on the East Coast, hopefully it can help entertain you through the nightmarish hell-scape happening outside. This is my first day as a "professional comedian." Not because I'm releasing a special, but because this is my first day of unemployment. I am no longer a "professional" anything else, and I intend to dedicate everything I have towards making "shouting about sadness" my full time jam. Earlier this month, "Exquisite Corpse," the book I co-edited, was released...

28 Years Later is wrapped

We've wrapped production on my comedy special, 28 YEARS LATER. Wanted to take a minute to thank everyone involved in the production, especially those of whom did excellent work for little to no money, because if you are a person who has money, they are well worth it: Joe Filipas for directing. Joe has been a friend for years and one of the few creative voices I trust to line up with my own. He is also in the dictionary next to "Midwestern Nice" and his careful planning (read: constant harassment) was what kept this train on the tracks. He's out of Minnesota, but his company Sugo Media does...

Why I’m Filming A Comedy Special

Hey Internet, I'm filming a comedy special on September 18th, at Club Fais Do-Do here in Los Angeles. The show is at 8pm and it is completely free. Some of my favorite comics in town are dropping by, PBR is giving us booze, there will be food, and then cameras will record your laughing at my failure so I can share it with the world. I've been in standup for just over a year, so why record a special now? First, it's my 28th birthday; hence the title 28 YEARS LATER. A friend of mine once said that if you move to LA and haven't made it by 28, you never will. This doesn't apply to me, because...

Brett Neveu’s Christmas Bytes: A Kickstarter To Kick/Start Now!

This is CHRISTMAS BYTES, a feature film about love and video games and growing up and the 80s. It was written by my favorite screenwriting teacher and all around awesome guy Brett Neveu, and they've launched a Kickstarter campaign today. Now Your Friends Close has a sister film! I encourage you all to check out their KICKSTARTER PAGE immediately. Not only is Dule Hill a producer (PSYCH RULES), but the other behind the scenes talent include people who brought us films like "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" and "Wild Things"; a DP who worked with Robert Altman; a star actor who is playing...

Devil’s Couriers Shoot

I filmed a featured role in a webseries put together by some friends. It's called THE DEVIL'S COURIERS and it is super great. Tim Aslin (Actor, Writer) and Kovar McClure (Director, Actor) were both in our film YOUR FRIENDS CLOSE, and have struck out on their own with a webseries about elderly people in a retirement home who take on a biker gang, and team up to attack hipsters. (Right? Yes.) If you want to follow DEVIL'S COURIERS as it progresses, please check out their FACEBOOK PAGE or TWITTER ACCOUNT, and pass along some love to TIM ASLIN who sporadically moved to New York City for the next...

LA: Brock Wilbur Wants To Give You A Library

Facebook RSVP here: https://www.facebook.com/events/210098585783985/ I'm taping a comedy special (28 Years Later) on September 18 at Club Fais Do-Do in Los Angeles. I set aside some money for marketing, but I don't want to clutter your Facebook sidebar or print out a bunch of flyers people would just throw away CUZ THE ENVIRONMENT. I decided to do something permanent and worthwhile with the money, and I bought a small library. It's made from the wood of an old barn by an Amish farmer named Henry Miller (I could not make this up.) Now it needs a home. Spread the word about the show and you spread...

Comedy Show Pitches + 28 Years Later Prep

Hey Internet. How's it going? I've been preparing for my comedy special taping on September 18th. I went to the Zombie Apocalypse themed cabin below, in the middle of the desert, to finish transcribing hours and hours of recordings... mostly me talking to myself in the car while stuck in traffic. Ever want to be convinced you are a danger to yourself and others? Try blasting through 13 hours of your own internal monologues in one sitting. Do it in a lonely cabin in the middle of the desert. Drink a lot and keep an axe near by... cause who didn't love The Shining? I got into standup comedy to not have...
